[...] …the ads you see when watching the NBA. I mean, people were talking about the “Man Law” ads, but I hadn’t seen any. Watching the playoffs? I’ve now seen six different ones. And apparently the NBA demographic is also the same group planning to go see The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Sometimes I feel like I must be watching the wrong shows. [...]

[...] You know those beer commercials that appeal to hairy-knuckled 18-to-34-year-old morons with the jolly idea that guys own what they penetrate? This Flux dude believes that I “overreacted” to these “fairly innocent and clever” ads when I posted a couple of paragraphs about them a few weeks ago. Apparently my having satirized Boo-Yah Nation with a bunch of totally made-up shit about an obscure French historical figure with a finger stuck in a beer bottle amounts to an egregiously wasteful intellectual expenditure.
[...] The Senate bill—which passed with the exuberant hell-yeahs of Democrat senators from what I think we can safely say are states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Montana, Florida, Nebraska) overabundant with thriving tribes of illiterate rednecks who wouldn’t know a well-turned English phrase if some moron in a beer commercial stuck his finger in it—cleverly imposes higher standards of English comprehension on would-be immigrants while providing bupkis in funding for ESL (English as a second language) programs. Thus ensuring a recursive infinite feedback loop of failure. But this and other concrete consequences of the bill pale in comparison to the blinding enormity of its symbolic subtext.
Michelob Ultra has a commercial that is aimed at women--running about doing womanly athletic things in small pieces of clothing while the breathless voiceover goes on about "make it your time" or something like that. Never mind that I've had water with more flavor than Michelob Ultra. Because girly girls don't drink beer, don't you know that?

And I watch a lot of sports, therefore I see a lot of beer commercials. The only point to them seems to be that men do stupid things in groups.

I am in the general vicinity of Barad-Dûr, of course. The restaurants are great and the night life exciting. Entertainment inexpensive.

MandosX3,
Where the hell are you.
I live in the Puget Sound area, where "Mordor Lives" signs have been posted at almost every clearcut for the past forty years. Nonetheless, I cannot imagine where you could be that is so devastated you would refer to it as the Plains of Gorgoroth.
