Imagine a thread of funky bratwurst proportions- the latest comments sidebar indicator could be yards of scrolling away from the freshest blamer emanation/hate-filled invective/aesthetically unfortunate mispunctuations.

I don’t see why the Show Latest Comments feature doesn’t take care of this missing-the-latest-comments thing. I mean, the latest comments are right there in the sidebar.

In general I don’t like nesting, but it works here for the following reasons I would suggest (and this is a nice implementation). Many blamers do not necessarily wade into the muckety muck of the internets all that much, but I note that a lot of people here can be really supportive of some of the stuff they read in comments, and being able to append a “hell yeah!” directly onto a nice turn of phrase, I think a bunch of people will like. On monster threads where the discussion can be many-headed, nesting makes things more difficult because you gotta read the entire thing again to see if someone popped out some serious blame in a wormhole up above.

Also, discerning blamers prefer cool whip, other PP below. Or perhaps the icy sky death known as snow, which now graces the featureless countryside. Snow, I say!
